You have definitely don a lot of work on this. I like the fact that the figures are partially covered by the purple blobs, but the perspective is a little off for me. The darker purple blob on the top right versus the other slightly brighter blobs seems to push back but is layered on top of. A little lightening should clear that up though.
On a side note the tree interaction is interesting and adds a nice dynamic that the one has the other going through it.
I think what you have so far looks good because its vibrant and there is a lot of flexibility to the background figure I think it gives this pic a lot of fluidity.
I wonder if the absolute side view is the most effective for this? Should the dude on top be seen from beneath so the viewer also feels weaker than him? I think you can go further with the overlapping shapes to develop space. Consider a gradient moving vertically instead of horizontally to achieve additional depth. I'm not sold on the colors on this one yet. They are a bit heavy so far. I wonder if you could steal a color scheme from some other source or be inspired by a color scheme from some other artist?
